The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning for Student Success (CETLSS) is now seeking applications for Faculty Peer Mentoring Circles.
The purpose of the peer mentoring circles is to provide support for faculty at all career levels, including new, early, middle, and late-career faculty at Appalachian State University. We invite proposals that support tenure-line faculty as well as our VITAL (Visiting, Instructors, Temporary, Adjunct, and Lecturer) and clinical faculty. Stipends will be granted to peer mentoring circle facilitators ($500/each) for each mentoring circle that has 6-8 participants who apply to join.
What is a peer mentoring circle?
A mentoring circle is made up of a small group of people who meet regularly to discuss specific topics related to their professional development. Similar to group mentoring, it can consist of one mentor and multiple mentees or multiple mentors and mentees. The key difference here is that circle mentorship requires a facilitator. The facilitator takes care of administrative duties (e.g., scheduling, planning meeting topics and formats, communicating with mentees and university stakeholders) and multiple mentees who are usually at similar levels in their careers. With our Mountaineer Mentoring peer mentoring circles, we plan to have co-facilitators for our inaugural year.
For additional information, requirements for facilitators, and mentees, and an outline of the proposals can be found HERE.
2024-2025 Faculty Peer Mentoring Circles:
You can submit your proposal using THIS FORM.
Proposals will be accepted from July 23 - August 9, so that we can determine the viability of the peer mentoring circles approach before New Faculty Orientation. During New Faculty Orientation, we will share the peer mentoring circle options with new faculty and invite them to apply and rank their peer mentoring circle choices. We will continue to accept proposals through August 20 and try to populate each one with the required 6-8 participants.
