J. Meg Steinweg, PhD, Educational Development Specialist
Meg Steinweg is an Educational Development Specialist at the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning for Student Success. In this role, she supports faculty with instructional consultations, SOTL scholarship, and alternative grading practices, and she leads workshops and other programming in the Center.
Meg was previously at Roanoke College, a small liberal arts college, where she served as an Associate Professor in Biology and as the co-director of the Teaching Collaborative. Prior to that she was an Assistant Professor in Biology at a two-year institution, University of Wisconsin-Baraboo/Sauk County. Between these two institutions, she has worked with an array of students inside the classroom including through disciplinary courses, general education courses, and first-year experiences, while balancing research with students outside of the classroom. While at Roanoke she received the Dean’s award for exemplary teaching in 2022. As the Teaching Collaborative co-director, she created opportunities for faculty and staff to discuss student success and facilitated workshops and book clubs dedicated to exploring different facets of teaching in higher education.
Meg earned her MS and PhD in Ecology from Colorado State University with a focus on soil microbial community function, and a BS in Biology from Appalachian State University. Most recently she completed a graduate certificate in Educational Technology from James Madison University. Meg’s other interests include reading (she’ll try anything), hiking, and spending time with her family.
