Emily serves as an Instructional Design Specialist to the Walker College of Business and Beaver College of Health Sciences, consulting with the faculty, departments, and programs about quality teaching practices and learning technologies. Prior to joining CETLSS, Emily was an Academic Instructional Technologist at Wake Forest University where she was embedded with the School of Law. Emily previously worked at Appalachian State University in Human Resources as the Associate Director for Learning and Organizational Development.
During the pandemic, Emily designed, implemented, and managed an online professional development site for the NC Student Success Center (a division of the NC Community College System) that featured collaboratively designed online courses for CC faculty on a variety of pedagogy-related topics.
Emily holds a master’s degree in education from NC State University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Appalachian State. She is certified in applying the Quality Matters Rubric and has a variety of other certifications related to change styles, strengths, and conflict management. Emily is committed to educational experiences that center student success, belonging, and equity. As an alumnae of Appalachian State, she enjoys the strong community connections and opportunities to immerse herself in the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge. She is also an avid reader who is always up for a good book recommendation!
