Katie Lail supports the Center of Excellence in Teaching and Learning for student success by planning and monitoring the program’s budget, assisting in its development, and coordinating program-related conferences, meetings, or workshops. She maintains the program's daily operations while supporting the center's needs.

Katie has been with AppState for three years and has previously worked with the Institute for Health and Human Services. She moved to Boone with her husband, an AppState employee, and an adjunct professor teaching sections in a first-year seminar. Katie and her husband welcomed their first child, a boy, in February 2023, and they enjoyed exploring the Appalachians with their son and two dogs. Before Appalachian State University, Katie lived in Colorado and was in the military for eight years. She has a background in behavioral health services and is a certified instructor for Mental Health First Aid for adults. She also holds a complementing instructor certificate in MHFA for Higher Education.
