Summer professional development opportunities

The Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) is pleased to announce the following summer professional development opportunities for our faculty.  The CAE will cover the associated registration costs for faculty to participate. Space is limited and applications are due by Thursday, June 27th.  Please use this brief application form to apply for consideration.  Participants will be notified by July 1.

 

The following are opportunities to participate in:

Designing Your Online Course -  (Two Weeks - Online Course - Starts July 12th)

The “Designing Your Online Course” workshop  the QM Rubric and provides a framework for participants to design an online course plan. An integral element of the workshop is exploration of the eight General Standards of the QM Rubric, focusing on learning objectives and overall course alignment. Participants will complete a Course Development Plan. The plan includes all of the essential Specific Review Standards (SRS) with a column for how the participant will meet the SRS in their course and what resources they will need.

 

Improving Your Online Course
(Two Weeks - 8-10 hours per week of workshop Online Course - Starts July 18th)

This workshop explores the QM Rubric and provides a framework to improve the quality of online courses. Participants use the QM Rubric to review their own courses and develop a course improvement plan.

 

NOTE: Participants come away with a plan for course improvement so enrolling in the workshop with a pre-developed online course is required.

 

Applying the Quality Matters Rubric - (Two weeks - Online Course facilitated by Rachel Clark of the CAE - Starts July 9th)

QM's flagship workshop on the QM Rubric and its use in reviewing the design of online and blended courses is intended for a broad audience, including but not limited to faculty, instructional designers, administrators, and adjunct instructors. It is particularly helpful to those new to QM or those considering the adoption of a quality assurance process for online and blended learning. If you are considering taking your course through a QM certification process, this course is an essential basis.

 

Peer Reviewer Course - (22 days - Online Course - Starts July 9th)

The Peer Reviewer Course is designed to prepare experienced online faculty to become QM-Certified Peer Reviewers. The Peer Reviewer Course includes a review of Quality Matters, practice in critiquing and writing helpful recommendations, and a Practice Review in which the participants are asked to review Specific Review Standards in an online course using the QM Course Review Management System (CRMS).  The Applying the Quality Matters Rubric course is a prerequisite for this course.
