Dr. Richard W. Pouder is a Professor in the Department of Management, teaching Strategic Management for the Honors Strategic Management Program. Dr. Pouder's main areas of research involve strategies affecting organizational structure and performance, strategic management at the regional level, and strategies affecting innovation. His work has been cited in some of the best journals in management and regional studies, and frequently reviews other researchers' manuscripts for journal publication. In 2005, Dr. Pouder was awarded the Walker College of Business Excellence in Research. He was also a recipient of the Walker College of Business Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2015. In 2009 and 2018, he was awarded the Appalachian State University Board of Governors College Excellence in Teaching Award. Dr. Pouder received his Doctorate in Management from the University of Connecticut after a 10-year career in private industry and joined the Walker College of Business as a faculty member in 2000. He has also served three years on the Early Intervention Team at Appalachian and was faculty advisor/coach for the ASU Club Baseball Team for the past eight years.
