Dr. Joseph Gonzalez is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cultural, Gender and Global Studies, teaching a variety of courses in global studies, interdisciplinary studies, and the Watauga Residential and Honors colleges. A historian of Cuba, Dr. Gonzalez lectures courses on Cuba (both on campus and in Cuba), contemporary global issues, and the field of Global Studies. Dr. Gonzalez has published historical scholarship in Spanish and in English, while contributing to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in peer-reviewed publications. In addition to receiving the University of North Carolina Board of Governors Award for Excellence in College Teaching (2018), Dr. Gonzalez has also received the Wayne D. Duncan Faculty Enrichment and Teaching Fellowship (2008), the Harvey Durham Outstanding Freshman Advocate Award (2012), and Honors College Teacher of Year Award (2017).
