Dr. Townsend is a professor in Health, Physical Education and Coaching in the Beaver College of Health Sciences. He has over 20 years of teaching experience ranging from elementary to secondary to the tertiary level. Dr. Townsend has taught several types of courses over his time at AppState including sub-disciplinary foundational courses as well as pedagogical content knowledge courses. This has afforded him the opportunity to transfer theory into best practice which his area of interest. Engaging learners in multiple and varied teaching experiences is a hallmark of Dr. Townsend's courses. His accomplishment in the field of education has been noted as he is a two time University Teacher of the Year as honored by the North Carolina Alliance for Athletics, Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports Management.
