Mental Health First Aid: Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training course that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.

High Impact Practices for Courses and Programs: Learn the High Impact Practices (HIPs) based on evidence of significant educational benefits for students who participate in them– including and especially those from demographic groups historically underserved by higher education (AAC&U website). Consider HIPs such as capstone assessments, portfolios, undergraduate research, portfolios, and collaborative projects for your courses and/or programs.

Designing Rubrics for Assignments: Would you like to use rubrics to better evaluate student work and to more efficiently provide feedback? A rubric is a scoring tool based on the criteria for evaluating the quality of student work. A rubric can be used for reports essays, projects, performances, and presentations. In this workshop, we will learn tools and strategies for creating rubrics and for using rubrics to efficiently grade course assignments.

Using Data to Improve Instruction: Have you wondered what’s the best approach for improving your teaching? Perhaps you have made changes, but are unsure about their impact. In this session we will discuss the sources of feedback available to you that can be used to inform your teaching: self-reflection, students’ mid-semester feedback, peer review of teaching, and end-of-semester evaluation. In addition, we will learn how to use a variety of sources to determine next steps for refining our teaching for more impact.

Improving your Online Assessment Strategy: AsULearn Quiz Tool: This workshop will provide information and guidance in setting up quizzes in AsULearn that discourage cheating. Participants will also discuss pedagogical practices for online assessment to help promote quality student works, meaningful results, and an overall better learning experience for both students and faculty.

Flipping Your Course: Making Time for What Matters: This workshop is for faculty that are interested in exploring a Flipped Classroom approach for their courses. The Flipped Classroom, generally speaking, is where students consume content (usually through videos, articles, or infographics) before class sessions, which opens up class time for projects, individualized feedback sessions, and other collaborative work. Research shows that the Flipped Classroom approach can lead to more student engagement, increased student interactions, and better learning outcomes.
